Funeral services for Mary Ruth Ballejo, 86, of Brownwood, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Brownwood. Interment will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mary passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 in Brownwood.
Mary Ruth Quisenberry was born Aug. 22, 1930 in Quanah, to Roger Scott and Laura B. Quisenberry. She was a longtime member of Sunset Baptist Mission where she made many dear friends and loved to make a special dish for any occasion.
Mary’s hobbies included needlepoint, cooking for loved ones, and making everyone feel welcome in her home. She loved the outdoors and was happiest mowing on her riding lawnmower. She enjoyed the wildflowers, watching the cardinals and roadrunners in her yard, and shelling pecans when she couldn’t be outside.
Survivors include daughters, DaAnna Stringer and husband David, and Teresa Hankins; son, Laddie Hankins and wife Sheila; seven grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, LaVerne Shannon; and a brother, Leon Quisenberry and wife Opal; as well as a large extended family. Mary is also survived by step-daughters, Mary Dolores Hernandez and husband David, Debbie Finlay and husband Jeff; step-sons, John C. Ballejo, Jr. and wife Jenni, Frank Ballejo, and Danny Ballejo and wife Gloria. She is also survived by 22 step-grandchildren, 43 step-great grandchildren; and four step-great great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Ballejo; her father, Scott Quisenberry; her mother, Laura Quisenberry; and her brother-in-law, Charles Shannon; as well as step-grandson, Lemuel Finlay; nephew, Earl Quisenberry; and niece, Kathleen Shannon.
