Sam Blacklock, age 90, of Brady, Texas passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at his residence in Brady. Sam was born August 4, 1927 in Hill County, Texas to Sam Dewey Blacklock and Velma Dora (Whitt) Blacklock. When Sam was 6 years old, his father passed away. His mother later married Jim Robertson, who raised him like his own. Sam served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Elsie Frances Gilbert on May 5, 1945 in Abilene. He was the Maintenance Foreman for the Brady Housing Authority for over 20 years, retiring in 2000. He has lived in Brady for over 50 years. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall in Brady for many years. A memorial service for Sam Blacklock will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2721 North Bridge in Brady with Dan Hinman officiating. Interment of Sam’s cremated remains will be at Eastlawn Cemetery in Early at a later date. Sam is survived by his loving wife of over 73 years, Elsie Frances Blacklock of Brady, Texas; daughters Kathleen Werle of Brady, Texas, Kelly Blacklock of San Antonio, Texas and Kerry Rodriguez and husband Immanuel of Lewisville, Texas; grandchildren Stephenie Corona and husband Anthony, Chad Werle and wife Spring, Jason Werle and wife Virginia and Amber Adair and husband Jim; 7 great-grandchildren and special nephews Eddie Blacklock and wife Jean and Bill Blacklock and wife Shirley. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-father, one brother, Edwin Blacklock and son-in-law Ed Werle.
