Born on March 5, 1930 in Brownwood, Texas, Patsy Jean Hunt was the
daughter of Wesley Powell Hunt, a master mechanic, and Golden McCamey
Hunt, an educator and homemaker. While a youth, Patsy ("Pat")
found tremendous enjoyment in her family, school, music lessons, art
studies, and her many pets. During World War II, the Hunt family took
in boarders and soldiers to help the War effort, an experience Pat
remembered with fascination.
Graduating from Brownwood High
School at sixteen, Pat then began work as a secretary for Arrow Coach
Lines. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Robert ("Bob")
E. Dunn, Navy veteran and UT Austin pharmacy school graduate. The
couple married on August 5, 1950. In 1951 and 1956, sons Kevin Jay
and Shaun Timothy were born. Mr. and Mrs. Dunn were apart for a
portion of 1951, when Bob returned to the Naval Reserves for the
Korean War.
Pat enjoyed being active in all school and church
events. She was a contributing and volunteer member in her sons' PTA
and Band Parents groups, as well as being part-time pianist and
organist at the Calvary Baptist Church. For several decades, Pat and
Bob Dunn supported their church's music program as instrumentalist
and vocalist.
Throughout these many years, Pat continued to
pursue her life-long interests in art, gardening, travel, playing
bridge, and cooking. As their two sons grew older, Pat and Bob shared
their love of music with the two boys. Through piano lessons, civic
music concerts, and trips to Dallas to see staged musical
performances, the Dunn family saw music as a lifetime joy.
Pat
attended Howard Payne College, completing a degree in art education,
with a business minor. Following graduation, Pat served as secretary
to the Athletics Department of Howard Payne, before accepting a
position as art instructor at the Brownwood ISD Middle School.
Pat
strove to find ways in which her students could experience a variety
of media, from weaving to drawing and from painting to sculpture.
Several students won awards, then went on to become studio artists or
designers. These former students credited "Mrs. Dunn" as
their first supportive arts influence, a tribute which Pat
treasured.
Pat and Bob Dunn shared a love of travel and
enjoyed repeated journeys to Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland,
Italy, Austria, and Germany, as well as tropical cruises, RV travel
across the Southwest, and trips to British Columbia. The Dunns easily
made new friends, domestic and foreign. Pat was a wonderful letter
writer and kept up correspondence with friends worldwide.
Patsy
Jean Hunt Dunn passed away on December 4, 2016 at C.A.R.E Nursing,
where she was accorded loving support, during her brief time there.
Pat was preceded in death by her dear parents and by her beloved
partner in life, Robert Dunn. Pat is survived by her devoted sons
Shaun and Kevin and dear cousins in Canada, the continental United
States, and Hawaii. Pat's life was defined by an absolute love of
family, an unending loyalty to friends, and a zest for all things
beautiful. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew
her.
