Funeral services for Lela Bell Eggleston, 78, of Brownwood, formerly of Bowie, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Buddy Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. Mrs. Eggleston died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Eggleston was born on June 5, 1924, in Chickasha, Okla., the daughter of Jasper and Lela Wilkinson Mead. She married Gene Enos Eggleston on July 31, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was a homemaker and waitress. She had been a resident of Brownwood since May of 2002, formerly of Bowie. She was a Baptist. Survivors include spouse, Gene Enos Eggleston of Brownwood; daughter, Bonnie Humphries and husband, Burl, of Zephyr; four brothers, Billy Mead of Phoenix, Ariz., Arthur Burl Mead of Phoenix, Walter Mead of Blanchard, Okla., and Larry Joe Mead of Blanchard; three sisters, Betty Dougless of Phoenix, Lois Ramins of Moore, Okla., and Sue Jennings of Purcell, Okla.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper Hayden and Lela Marie Mead; sister, Wanda Jane Mead; and a great-granddaughter, Kyra Ashlyn Dunlap.
