Pleasant ‘Pete’ Decatur Kennamer III, 75, of Brownwood, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at a local skilled nursing facility after a lengthy illness.
Pete was born June 27, 1941 in Brownsville to Pleasant Kennamer, Jr and Helen (Stuntebeck) Kennamer. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1960 and proudly served his country for eight years with two tours of combat duty in Vietnam. He graduated from Howard Payne University’s Douglas Macarthur Academy of Freedom in 1975 then went on to earn a masters of divinity from Texas Christian University, a masters of education from Tarleton State University and a masters of science from San Angelo State University. During his career Pete worked for Central Texas MHMR, pastored two churches, was chaplain and later a licensed counselor for the Brownwood State School (Ron Jackson SJCC) and retired in 2010 as a licensed therapist for the State of Texas parole division.
Pete is survived by his two daughters, Amber Kennamer and son-in-law Michael McCullough of Brownwood, and Gabrielle Rice and husband Jeff of Early; six grandchildren, Jordan, Tristen, Adam, Jayden, Amiyah and Dillon; two sisters, Shirley Smith and husband Myrl of Durant, OK, and Bonnie LaFerney and husband Jimmy of Rockport; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Ralph Jackson, and infant daughter Kate Kennamer.
