Funeral services for Brady Thomas, 90, of Brownwood, will be held Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home with Jerry Leslie officiating. Interment to follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. He passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center following a long illness. Mr. Thomas attended Brownwood High School and Howard Payne, where he played football and track, graduating from Howard Payne with a B. S. in History. After WW II, he attended North Texas State College, graduating with an M.A. degree. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was in the Naval Armed Guard, where he was commanding officer of a unit that sailed with the troop and supply ships in the Pacific. He served from 1941- December, 1945 as a Navy Lieutenant. He coached and taught school in West Texas for 37 years -- the last 22 were spent in Odessa, Texas. He retired and moved to Brownwood in 1974 where he ranched, played golf at Brownwood Country Club and was a very faithful, active member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ. He was also a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Thomas was born November 13, 1912, to Denie Brady and W. D. Thomas at Holder, Texas, in Brown County. He married Agnes Cottingham at Floyada, Texas, on June 6, 1940. Survivors include his wife of 62 1/2 years, Agnes; son, Tom, and wife, Beth Ann; four grandchildren, Tiffanye Thomas, Jennifer Mueller, Tommy Thomas II and Amanda Thomas; one great-grandchild, Rikki; and his special buddies - two little Yorkies.
