Funeral services for Aubrey Joe Carlisle, 91, of Stephenville, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Slaymaker officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Zephyr Cemetery. Mr. Carlisle passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12 , 2019 in Willow Park. The last years of Joe’s life were spent in Willow Park near his daughter at ClearFork Assisted Living Center. He enjoyed his association with many new friends and the excellent care he received from the employees and staff. He was everyone’s “Papa Joe.” Joe was born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Democrat to O.N. “Pete” and Gladys (Pittman) Carlisle. He graduated from Zephyr High School with his high school sweetheart, Letha Petty and they were married two years later in Newburg after Joe served in World War II . Joe and Letha celebrated 68 years of marriage before her death on Dec. 6, 2015. Joe pursued a career in public education that spanned 39 years. Joe was a teacher, coach, vice-principal, and junior high principal in the Brownwood School District for 25 years. He then served as high school principal in Lampasas ISD for five years. He completed his service in education as high school vice principal in the Stephenville school district from 1980 until his retirement in 1989. Joe was also a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Stephenville. Survivors include his children, Kala Ash and husband Larry Dale of Willow Park. Larry Carlisle and wife Jeanne of Arlington; five grandchildren, Angela Ash Lemons, Brandon Ash, Lindsay Kostelnik, Heather Garcia, and Megan Overstreet;10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine (Truman) Nall; and a brother, Dewayne (Marie) Carlisle. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Joe’s caregivers at ClearFork Assisted Living and Compassus Hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letha Petty Carlisle; his parents; and two brothers, Arvin and J.D. Carlisle.
